Hello, you! I’m Allison. Welcome to the beginning of our journey. I know you may feel overwhelmed with all the plastic (or even regular clutter) you see in your home, the environment, and in the shops. Then there’s all the doom and gloom on the news which can make trying a greener, simpler lifestyle seem pointless.
Well put those feelings aside because you have come to the right place. Together you and I will discover just how many like-minded individuals really knock about here and together we will make a difference.
As for me, I was born and raised in California. I taught primary school for 10 years and danced for as long as I can remember. Then I met my husband, Lee, in an online war game (I know, super geeky). We hit it off, got married and I moved to the U.K. 4 years ago. Lee and I chose to start our family right away and I am the proud mama of two girls, Olivia and Penny.
I love teaching. I have a master’s degree in Education, Qualified Teacher Status, and the experience to continue teaching, but having my girls changed my priorities. I decided to stay home with them and put my energy where my passion is-reducing our waste and clutter so we can live a happier existence all while doing our part to save the planet!
Now I get to teach friends like you!
My journey towards an eco-friendly lifestyle started in 2013 with my deodorant. I didn’t want to continue exposing myself to cancer causing chemicals, so I started making my own. Then I moved on to body butter. But it was within the past year as I read specifically about the plastic crisis, I realised that my efforts need to go beyond a couple of product swaps. Beyond recycling. I realise I can’t wait for somebody to do something. I am that somebody. So are you. And we are choosing to make this lifestyle change.
Even though I can see Lee’s giant eyeroll now, he and our girls will be along for the ride. My girls are young enough that this will be “normal life” for them.. As for Lee? Don’t worry. He’s making little changes already despite his reservations.
I am far from perfect (hence the “ish”), but I am giving zero-waste, minimalism, and an overall more Earth-friendly lifestyle my best, and perhaps more importantly, continuous effort. I would love for you to join me and work through this lifestyle change, too. Together we can leave the world better place for our children. Our littles are counting on us to succeed whether or not they are old enough to realise it.

What can I say about the most amazing person in my world that would do him justice?
In the six years we have been together, Lee has been everything I had ever dreamed of and more. He’s loving, generous, hard-working, and takes care of me like no one ever has. He’s so supportive from helping me adjust to living in a new country to helping me achieve my lifestyle change goals, even though I know he’s thinking (not-so-secretly) that I’m nuts.
He’s really into motor bikes as well as mountain biking and hiking. He loves being a daddy and spoiling our girls. And despite his reservations with my semi-forced lifestyle change (he hates the cloth wipes), he actually has greenish tendencies. He spends money buying quality items that last, he cycles or walks to work when he can (we only have one car), and he wants to give composting a go!
He’s the peanut butter to my jelly and I love him. That is all.
Olivia and Penny
Olivia is the most empathetic three year old you will ever meet. She is so in-tune with how others are feeling it blows me away. She loves dinosaurs, construction equipment and spotting airplanes. She has love-hate feelings for the Hulk. Huge Peppa Pig and Bing fan. She also loves her little sister more than anything in the world.
Penny is the sunshine on the many rainy days in the U.K. She has a smile for everyone that is so big you can’t help but laugh. She talks up a storm and enjoys walking around the house with a purse on her shoulder and play phone in her hand. She’s a fabulous eater and is willing to try anything. She loves her big sister to pieces.
They go together like peas and carrots. And even though these little partners in crime are getting into mischief more often, they are also so much fun.
